Malcolm Silander, Co-founder of Precision BioSearch, has announced his candidacy for election to the Board of Directors of the BioIndustry Association (BIA), the UK’s leading trade association for innovative life sciences and biotech companies.

The BIA, founded 33 years ago, represents more than 500 member organisations and serves as a critical voice for the biotech sector. As a member-led association, it drives progress in policy, finance, science, regulation, law, and talent development. This year, five seats are open for election to the Board of Directors, providing members with the opportunity to help shape the future of the UK’s biotech ecosystem.

Malcolm has been a committed supporter of the BIA since co-founding Precision BioSearch in 2020. With nearly two decades of experience in life sciences executive search and leadership recruitment, he has built and scaled recruitment organisations across the EU and North America, supporting hundreds of drug discovery and development companies. Beyond his professional achievements, Malcolm has served as a STEM Ambassador, a Mentor for the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, and currently advises the University of Westminster School of Life Sciences. He also brings experience from public service as an elected District Councillor for Sevenoaks, Kent, sitting on the Finance & Investment Advisory Committee. He holds a Joint Honours MA degree in Sociology & Politics from the University of Edinburgh.

“I am passionate about the BIA’s mission to support innovation and growth across the UK biotech sector,” said Malcolm. “Through my work, I engage with hundreds of biotech executives, investors, and entrepreneurs. I want to ensure their voices are heard, and I believe my experience in leadership, recruitment, and talent strategy will help strengthen the BIA’s focus on Skills & Talent, Growing the Sector, and Diversity & Inclusion.”

Malcolm’s candidacy reflects his longstanding commitment to advancing talent and leadership within the biotech community. His unique blend of expertise positions him to contribute to the BIA’s work in supporting start-ups, scale-ups, and established companies as they navigate the challenges of growth and global competition.
