Malcolm Silander of Precision Biosearch will be participating in a roundtable discussion at the SME XPO, taking place on 18–19 June 2025 at ExCel London. The session, titled “Building High-Performing Teams and Strategic Connections,” is scheduled for 3:00 PM on 18 June and will bring together business leaders to share insights and experiences on one of the most critical aspects of scaling a company: people and partnerships.
Whether it’s assembling a first leadership team, entering new markets, or expanding advisory networks, the quality of people and connections often defines the trajectory of a company’s next stage.
Malcolm and fellow participants will explore five key themes through an open, interactive dialogue. The conversation will begin by examining when and how to bring in new talent to support growth, including whether leadership hires are best sourced from existing networks or through external searches. The group will then turn to the challenge of maintaining company culture at pace, exploring the tension between hiring fast and hiring right.
Another major focus will be how leadership teams are perceived by investors. Participants will discuss what investors look for in a founding or executive team, and how team structure can influence funding outcomes. The conversation will also delve into the value of strategic networks and partnerships, how to identify those that genuinely move the needle and assess their strategic value.
Finally, the roundtable will address one of the biggest questions for growth-stage businesses: how to incentivise and retain top talent in the absence of big corporate pay packages. Equity, purpose, and long-term alignment are expected to feature prominently in this part of the discussion.
This session is designed to be candid and collaborative, offering attendees the chance to share what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what they’re still figuring out in building high-performance teams and strategic connections.
